brief history
The company was founded by Chris Yuncken, a fourth generation builder who started out as a carpentry apprentice and worked as a carpenter and shipwright before deciding to go into business for himself in 1982. After a stint building chalets, hotels and large residences in the Snowy Mountains the company was moved to Sydney in 1997 in no small part to meet the demand of established clients from the mountains who wanted their house built in Sydney’s north shore and eastern suburbs.
In the last 10 years the company has completed well in excess of $100M worth of projects from some of the country’s most distinguished architectural firms including Rosevear Architects, Ian Moore Architects, Vladimir Ivanov, Stanic Harding, Architects Johannsen and Molnar Freeman and established a reputation second to none in quality, reliability and generating a return on investment. We have also completed a significant body of work for Corben Architects, perhaps one of if not the most prolific architects on Sydney’s north shore.
Yuncken Construction Group first entered the NSW Master Builder Awards in 2003 and immediately picked up the contract homes category $1-1.5M. The company has won an award every year since culminating in 2008 with winning the prestigious NSW Master Builder of the Year – the highest accolade for domestic construction in the state.
quality is everything
To Chris Yuncken quality is everything. He will personally visit every project on a weekly basis and expects a level of finish from all staff and contractors that exceeds every expectation. Management and site staff are involved in every project on a personal level and work closely with each client and architect to achieve the best possible outcomes in quality and design. Unlike other builders in the same market each project has a dedicated site foreman who oversees the project from start to finish. Yuncken staff and subcontractors are handpicked from amongst the best available. YCG directly employs a team of carpenters for the majority of work to ensure the best finish possible is achieved in every instance. Several employees have worked for the company for over 20 years.

At Yuncken Construction Group we know the high end of the residential market back to front. We are familiar with building practices, council regulations and the approval process and we understand that for many of our clients their residence, as well as being a very personal part of their lives, is also significant financial investment. Although very few of the building’s we have built over the years have been sold, whenever this has occurred the sales results and the return on investment generated are nothing short of stunning. 5 Arbutus St Mosman completed in 2005 picked up both the NSW Master Builders and Master Builders of Australia Awards in the luxury apartment category. The project subsequently set a record for apartment prices in the Mosman area.
